"Their story reaches a moving climax in a storm whipped up by Nen’s angry sea-king father, and Nen bravely saves his beloved. Exquisitely tender, beautifully illustrated and quietly revolutionary"

#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Quentin Blake for "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (Roald Dahl, 1997). Although I grew up with different Dahl illustrators, Blake's fresh, free, quirky and confident line serves Dahl wonderfully well. @mrjamesmayhew James Mayhew 🎨🌈 Videos and pictures

@MrHtheteacher Good Luck to all year 6 children, and any other kids moving on to new schools. Adventure and excitement await you! Here's our dog Diva listening to a gramophone, to make you laugh (yes, there was a dog treat inside!) @mrjamesmayhew James Mayhew 🎨🌈 Videos and pictures

#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Gerald Rose for "Nessie the Mannerless Monster" by Ted Hughes (1964). A bonkers tale of the Loch Ness monster on a rampage through London, with colour & B/W pages. Rose's quintessentially 60s-style line-work is a delight, full of detail and wit. @mrjamesmayhew James Mayhew 🎨🌈 Videos and pictures

#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Alice & Martin Provensen for β€œForeign Lands” in β€œ A Child’s Garden of Verses” by R L Stevenson (1951). I love the Provensen’s work. Such bold shapes & unexpected colours. As fresh as a daisy, & much imitated. Oh, how I miss visiting Foreign Lands! @mrjamesmayhew James Mayhew 🎨🌈 Videos and pictures

#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Errol Le Cain for β€œBeauty and the Beast” retold by Rosemary Harris (1979). Our garden is full of roses just now, and they always remind me of this pivotal moment in this story. As ever, Le Cain captures the drama and the beauty brilliantly. @mrjamesmayhew James Mayhew 🎨🌈 Videos and pictures
