Today I played an extraordinarily challenging — and fascinating— course in 48 degree weather with steady, if light, rain and 10-15 mph wind. By the 18th I was beaten and beleaguered. Still I could not help but think of Patton’s line about war: ‘God help me, but I love it so.’
Some of my favorite writing by Bernard Darwin is not about golf — such as this nostalgic reflection on the joys of childhood. It is from an absolutely marvelous collection called ‘Every Idle Dream.’ The rest of this essay and the entire book are very much worth your time. Enjoy!
Some personal news.. been trialling the Ping G425 SFT (and some tapered trousers). So, after 20 years trying to squeeze every tee shot left to right, I’m now looking to hit a bit of a draw (not one swing speed topped 100mph) 💣 💣 Big thanks to @martinheggie for a great fitting
What a splendid week it has been at the BetFred British Masters, course in great shape and still an engaging test. It is going to be a dash for the line tomorrow.....⛳️. We are just missing the enthusiastic @EuropeanTour fans.
Getting the tools of the trade ready for today’s final round of the @british_masters looking forward to strolling with @BurmyGolf and @AdrianMeronk There will be a few BOOMS 💥! off the tee. #kenontheCourse
You don't take food off the table that your children are eating, so why would you take it away from the seabirds children. Ah money talks, I forgot. The even turned off their AIS so we could not see them. @ChrisGPackham @michaelastracha @IoloWilliams2
@1hour1sketch #1hour1sketch @kunstklasse #kleineKunstklasse another attempt to think the picture further...and @Revilo_S13 said, try it with color, just try it...ok, here now with color...did you know that this special landscape on the picture was formed by the ice age?
In the meantime, if you're looking for treats & gifts, I heartily recommend these artist shops! ⭐️@tormalore: https://t.co/CMRV4yxSEf ⭐️@chrismouldink: https://t.co/HIucYs1VWu ⭐️@hoonbutton: https://t.co/uEnrz9RTzm ⭐️@Jontofski: https://t.co/mDzTJIsggU
It also gave me a little window into some of your lives, seeing what made you smile, being able to think of you individually as I addressed envelopes. (Publishing can be so impersonal - you put a book out and have no idea what happens.) Really enjoyed the personal nature of it 💛
Closed shop for awhile. Just want to say, thanks SO much to everyone who bought art, cards & prints, and shared. I had an unexpected publishing gap, it helped cover that. Also Stuart & I were living in very close quarters, working that cottage industry together was good for us 💛
Here’s the sketch map of Wildsea Island I worked from while I was writing #UtterlyDarkAndTheFaceOfTheDeep. The book comes out on 2nd September with cover, chapter heads, & a better map by @paddydonnelly. https://t.co/VmFQg5egaI @DFB_storyhouse
