@RachelDelahaye I think Onward is better than Soul, and has been massively missed. There are some brilliant shorts, and Bluey, which should be required viewing for anyone in the children’s storytelling business.
Wow, I'd not seen this until now - how generous of Abie! Loads of great hints and tips on her feed for budding picture book writers.
I do like a Good News Friday! Huge congratulations to @BZephaniah @RobBiddulph @SmritiPH and @holliejhughes and all their co-creators and publishers shortlisted for these brilliant awards. 🌟
@tombonnick I’ve had some tins of gin, Tom, can you imagine my off Twitter ranting? My poor husband.
I have *thoughts* about the choice of Children’s Publisher of the Year, combining great admiration and respect with huge disappointment for the message it gives to authors and illustrators creating enduring original books published brilliantly by experts accessible to all. 😑
Disappointed as I am for my clients to lose out, I celebrate the win of Black And British by David Olusoga in that category and his agents, my colleagues Charles Walker and Olivia Martin. 👏
I beamed at the choice of @Nelle_Andrew as Agent of the Year, knowing she represents the best of our business with passion and perspective ❤️
Absolutely THRILLED for superstar S&S picture book designer Jane Buckley winning the inaugural Designer of the Year category. I know lots of illustrators who would agree she’s the bees’ knees.
What a surreal and FUN few hours sitting on two ‘tables’ at the #nibbies - thank you HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster for putting up with me. Huge love and congratulations to winners of my heart @SmritiPH and @RobBiddulph Impossible to judge all those books against each other.
Are you looking for picture book perfection? Then look no further than The Pet - out today. Congratulations to @gumdraw - he's really quite good at this old drawing lark. Brilliantly bringing @Emmett_Cath's hilarious words to life.
A panda who wants to be Mary Poppins? I mean, how could you resist?! Even better when illustrated in Sarah's hilarious, warm, approachable style. 🐼🐼🐼 Pudding is a star in the making.
Apols for the paywall, but in short @emmac2603 is brilliant and this is her WONDERFUL new book which will be hardbacked for the first time (out in Sept), and her backlist titles are also getting glorious new covers by @DJTerrazzini. Excellent publishing for this excellent person
This is v niche, I know, but what's the Zoom dress vibe for the Nibbies later? Full ball gown (+ slippers)?
@TomLancaster_PB I believe he and his best friend communicate almost solely using this phrase. Oh to be 6.
GO ON GERTIE! 🎉🎉🎉 Oscar's Book Prize always has a stellar shortlist, this year was certainly no exception. Such a lovely celebration of the best of picture books. Super proud of @hindleyillos and huge congratulations to @_lufraser and all the amazing S&S team.
@misstoogood @smartgiles Getting my oven cleaned was some of my most successful Twitter shizzle this year! (my mum bought me the clean as a birthday present, yes sir) - do it Giles.
🎺🎺🎺 NEW BOOKS 🎺🎺🎺 It's an all female affair, this week with stunners from @sarahhorne9 @JennyLovlie x 2 @Sally_Nicholls @bagleybooks. Huge congratulations to all, and to co-creators and publishers.
@tombonnick Yeah, I get that. A nice take-down of Pat was what was probably missing but we know she’s not entirely straight so would it be that much of a surprise? I just don’t want any of the three of them to be bent so I’m not sure anything else can be that shocking.
Like, “this shit will go on and on” - that’s right! The baddy was just a greedy git. Life! And Ted’s speech to Pat was a zinger - summed up the whole thing. It wasn’t full of dark, twisted surprises but it showed the goodness of our trio.
