The end of the darkest period in our nation’s history is a cause for celebration and pride, and today offers us an important opportunity to reflect on the meaning of equality in the United States. So let us pause and recommit ourselves to knowing our #juneteenth history.
Today, I also joined my colleagues in calling on the administration to address the backlogs and processing delays for DACA recipients, which impact not only the individuals who depend on them, but their families and the workplaces that employ them.
Dreamers deserve clarity, and the American people would like us to actually solve this problem rather than swing wildly back and forth on immigration policy. @SenatorDurbin's hearing today offered an important step forward in these conversations.
Too many rural and minority communities have been left behind – we must do better during this recovery. The NextGen #EntrepreneurCorps Act would help provide capital, mentorship, and training for aspiring entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds.
5 years ago, 49 people were killed and 53 injured inside of @pulseorlando nightclub — a horrific attack on our LGBTQ+ community. This week the Senate unanimously designated Pulse as a national memorial. Today, I remember the lives lost and forever changed. Keep dancing, Orlando.
This week, in an important display of bipartisanship, the Senate passed legislation that will better position the U.S. to compete with China. I was pleased to hear that @SecBlinken stands ready to work with us to put this bill into practice.
I look forward to continued work with @SecBlinken to urge the Ethiopian government to fulfill its public commitments, open humanitarian access, and reach a political solution to this conflict.
Happening soon: I’m speaking at #Aspire2021 with @FareedZakaria and @RepJimmyPanetta about how we can advance durable climate solutions and build resilient communities. Follow along live at 1:30PM ➡️ https://t.co/XIZJ4C0ksW
Chicken growers in Delaware and across the country suffered substantial losses during the pandemic. The Senate Chicken Caucus fought to secure federal assistance for these growers & it’s now focused on getting these hardworking folks the relief they need as soon as possible ⬇️
Remembering Lawrence Anderson, Walter Brinton, John Butler, George Beebe, George Dill, Walter Dobek, Charles Donoghue, Stephen MacGregor, William Morris, James Padley, Franklin Polster & William Verderamo. These Delawareans were among the 2,500+ allied troops killed on #DDay1944.
The tragedy of gun violence continues to devastate communities across the country. We #WearOrange today to honor the lives lost, support survivors, and push for needed reforms that will save lives.
Our pilgrimage concluded with a candlelight vigil in the rain where we joined hundreds of people to stand along Greenwood Avenue – in memory of those whose lives and homes and businesses were destroyed a century ago. I hope we can all take time to reflect on this history today.
We saw the basement of the church—where survivors gathered to begin the process of rebuilding Greenwood & reclaiming their lives. It was powerfully moving to see marks of the fire & to hear from members of the congregation about their work & challenges in present-day North Tulsa.
In Tulsa, I joined @RepLBR, @RepBarbaraLee, @l_kevinmatthews, and Joan Mooney of @FaithandPolitic in laying a wreath at the dedication of the prayer wall at the Vernon AME Church in Greenwood in memory of those lost.
This #MemorialDay , we honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice – our friends, family members, and fellow Americans who’ve laid down their lives in service to our country. We will never forget the price they paid to protect the freedoms we hold dear.
It’s been six years without Beau Biden. Beau was a soldier, a leader, and a champion for the rights and liberties of others. He was a loving father, a devoted husband, a kind spirit, and – to me – an extraordinary friend. I miss him and carry him in my heart every day.
On #AfricaDay we celebrate the founding of the present day @_AfricanUnion. For nearly 60 years, the AU has advanced peace, prosperity, & greater continental integration. I will continue working to strengthen the U.S. ties with the AU & the diverse & dynamic countries of Africa.
